Well today after a nightmare of a week, I finally got my MG back.
After 89425miles, the headgasket finnally gave in. Half way to work, I noticed it had just gone over its normal temp. and was still rising. To cut a long story short, I pulled up, looked at the coolant resivoir, and it was empty. Shutting the boot I remembered I'd left the keys in there, and was now stranded (good job the other half had just finished work and brought me the spare set).
Well, its had an head gasket repair, new expansion tank cap, new jiggle bypass hose, new y shape hose (thought I may as well have new ones, as the original were probably pas their best), new stainless steel coolant pipes and new radiator (both of these I was going to get done in the near future, but as the car was drained I thought I'd get them done as well).
I got all this, and they threw in a health check, and a new oil filler bracket (as mine had broke).
I've just fitted the bracket, and now have to work through the list of advisory work:-
Rear tie bar brushes worn
Mesh deteriorated off exhaust flexi pipe
O/S/F Wheel bearing noisey
N/S/F Wheel bearing noisey
O/S/R Wheel bearing noisey
O/S/R Top ball joint slight play
N/S/R Top ball joint slight play
Clutch pipe corroded (under floor)
So, plenty of good fun for me over the next month or so. Now to start my research to find out what the parts I need are and where I can get them cheapest from.
